While erosion is a natural process, Michigan’s 3,300 miles of Great Lakes shoreline are eroding at an alarming rate due to the high water levels in recent years. These high water levels are overwhelming existing erosion control measures as well as the winds and are especially concerning for Lakes Huron, Michigan and Superior, which are considered HREAs, or high-risk erosion areas. These areas are losing shoreline nearly daily, putting homes and other structures at risk of falling into the lake.

To mitigate much of this risk, planned and permitted construction projects often include either moving the structure’s back from the shoreline and/or implementing hard armor to lessen the effects of shoreline erosion.

Since these methods can often be costly and otherwise not feasible, several industry-leading brands have created innovative shoreline protection methods that are more affordable, more environmentally friendly and provide better performance.
